CLIMATE CHANGE BACKGROUND SITES
NASA Global Climate Change Education Site https://gcce.larc.nasa.gov/
NASA’s Innovations in Global Climate Change Education initiative is designed to improve the quality of the nation’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and enhance students’ and teachers’ literacy about global climate and Earth system change from elementary grades to lifelong learners.
EPA Global Climate Change for Students http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/students/index.html
Our world is always changing. Look out your window long enough, and you might see the weather change. Look even longer, and you'll see the seasons change. The Earth's climate is changing, too, but in ways that you can't easily see.
Climate Change Overview epa.gov/climatechange/
Climate change is a problem that is affecting people and the environment. Greater energy efficiency and new technologies hold promise for reducing greenhouse gases and solving this global challenge. EPA's website provides information on climate change for communities, individuals, businesses, states, localities and governments.
IPCC 2007 FAQs Frequently Asked Questions about the IPCC 2007 report
The best way to beigin your introduction. Review the beginning of the FAQ and include basic background information about anthropogenic forcings and global warming to begin your introduction. You can read further to see other effects that may help you shape your Article review.
American Meteorological Society Climate Site http://www.ametsoc.org/amsedu/ECS/home.html
The American Meteorological Society promotes the development and dissemination of information and education on the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences and the advancement of their professional applications. This site contains many links to great climate change science and data sets.
Institute of Climate Studies Nexus http://icsusa.org
ICSUSA.org based in Chazy, New York, was founded in 2008 as a noprofit (pending) organization. The intent is to educate the public and encourage discussion of climate change, its impact on the North Country through research and peer-reviewed data presentations. This site should be searched by reviewing the titles in more recent years. Many of the documents contain references to original works. However, the documents on this site are not usually original research. Rather, they are a good first step. Using the Wiley or AMS sites below to find other original research should be completed in addition to finding good general articles to help you get started from sites like the ICSUSA.org Nexus.
ORIGINAL RESERACH - The list below is a starting point for finding original climate change research.
Wiley Online Library onlinelibrary.wiley.com/subject/code/000045
Wiley Online Library hosts the world's broadest and deepest multidisciplinary collection of online resources covering life, health and physical sciences, social science, and the humanities. It delivers seamless integrated access to over 4 million articles from 1500 journals, almost 10,000 online books, and hundreds of reference works, laboratory protocols and databases.
Journals of The American Meteorological Society journals.ametsoc.org/
The AMS promotes the development and dissemination of information and education on the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences and the advancement of their professional applications. Founded in 1919, AMS has a membership of more than 14,000 professionals, students, and weather enthusiasts. AMS publishes nine atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic journals — in print and online — sponsors more than 12 conferences annually, and offers numerous programs and services.
Journal of Coastline Research http://www.jcronline.org/action/doSearch
The Journal of Coastal Research (JCR) is one of the leading international journals for coastal studies and processes, and is published bi-monthly by the Coastal Education & Research Foundation [CERF]. By covering the entire field of coastal research, the JCR encompasses all subjects relevant to natural and engineered environments (freshwater, brackish, or marine) and the protection/management of their resources in the vicinity of coastlines of the world. Even though the journal broadly focuses on immediate shoreline zones, the JCR also embraces those coastal environments that either reach some indefinite distance inland or that extend seaward beyond the outer margins of the sublittoral (neritic) zone. The JCR disseminates accurate information to both the public and research specialists around the world on all aspects of coastal issues in an effort to maintain or improve the quality of our planet's shoreline resources.
Springerlink.com http://www.Springerlink.com
SpringerLink is an integrated full-text database for journals, books, protocols, eReferences, and book series published by Springer. SpringerLink currently offers 2,614 fully peer-reviewed journals and 44,840 books online.
DATA SITES
My Nasa Data mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov/
The MY NASA DATA program was featured on the NASA Explorer Schools (NES) pilot project website. Three MY NASA DATA lessons were selected by NES educators to be among the top educational products evaluated.
Consortium for Atlantic Regional Assessment www.cara.psu.edu
Changes in land use and climate can affect quality of life where people live, work, and play. This Consortium builds on earlier research of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Assessment (Preparing for a Changing Climate: The Potential Consequences of Climate Variability and Change. Mid-Atlantic Foundations pdf , Metropolitan East Coast Assessment, New England Regional Assessment, and Boston Area Assessment) showing that impacts from climate change often amplify impacts from changing land use.
Mapping and Monitoring available from Woods Hole Research Center http://www.whrc.org/mapping/index.html
WHRC scientists incorporate satellite and remote sensing technologies with on-the-ground research to map and monitor forests, biomass, habitats, environmental change, and other ecosystems and services throughout the globe.
